DESCRIPTION:Trail Hawks, Trail Hawk friends and family welcome

Costumes
Encouraged!!! Although, like last year, I'll have costume items that you
are more than welcome to borrow.

Potluck. The Trail Hawks will be
providing some hamburgers, pop/soda/soda-pop (ugh, can I just say Coke,
you know what I mean!! :) ) and some treats. Helpful potluck items to
bring would be buns and firewood. :) (If someone calls this early, Those
Polish Thingies will bring pierogi.) We will have two grills and a fire
 pit at our disposal.

Gather beginning at 6:30 pm. You'll be divided
into “packs” around 7 pm. Hit the trails at before/by 7:30pm. Party
over by 10 pm, when they close the park gates.

Course will be 4.5
miles – One pack will go out on white from Shelter 1 to Marina Road,
back on blue to Saunders Mound, where they will howl at the moon, and then
back to Shelter 1. It will almost be a full moon, so should be a great
 night for a run.

This little secret got out. lol The “pack” that
wins the race gets a growler of beer from Free State.

SUMMARY:Third Annual Hawk 100-mile / 50-mile / Marathon
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE-TIME:20130914T060000

UID:http://lawrencetrailhawks.com/races/2013/sep/14/hawk-100-mile50
 -milemarathon-second/
DESCRIPTION:100- and 50-mile starts at 6am. Marathon starts at 7am.

All
three races are run on a 25 mile loop which is 90% wooded and 10% open.
This is a deceptively challenging course. The elevation will add up and
the rocks and roots will require your attention. That said, Clinton Lake
is a beautiful venue to run at with extremely well-marked and well-
 maintained trails to enjoy.

Marathoners will cover the extra 1.2 miles
before heading onto the loop for their race. Last year I promised a Slip
N' Slide on this section and didn't deliver. This year I'm going looking
for those huge foam jousting sticks they used on American Gladiators.

The course has three aid stations, one at the start/finish, one at Lands
End and one at West Park Road, both of which runners will go through
twice. Longest distance between aid stations will be West Park Road to
Land's End - approx 6 miles. Shortest distance between aid stations will
be approx 2 miles, when the runners do an out-and-back up Bunker Hill from
  West Park Road.

Aid stations will have most everything you'd expect at
an ultra along with limited options for the vegans among you. The one
thing I'd suggest you carry with you or put in a drop bag is S-caps and
whatever flavor of GU doesn't make you puke after a long day of running.
We'll also have hot food for the overnight hours including soup so think
you're guaranteed to not be able to puke it back up!

Each aid station
will be staffed by experienced ultrarunners and crew who will be more than
happy to pop your blisters, feed you M&Ms, tell you you look great when
you really don't, and kick you out when you've been lounging for too long.

There will be two drop bag locations not including the start/finish.
Drop bags at Lands End will be accessible twice each loop as well drop
bags at West Park Road. We learned our lesson the first year and won't
share the contents of your drop bag with the local Raccoon population (I
still feel really bad about that).

Crews can see their runners at the
start/finish and at the West Park Road aid station (approx mile 12). Your
crew WILL have to purchase a park pass in order to access the West Park
Road aid station! Daily passes go for just under $5.00.

Pacers are
allowed after 50 miles or 12 hours (whichever comes first) and may join at
either the start/finish or at West Park Road. If you're an out-of-towner
and are looking for a local pacer drop a note in the comments and we'll do
our best to find you a date guaranteed to spend the rest of the night
with you - can't beat that.

100 milers may drop to the 50 during the
race but won't qualify for any awards. 100 milers may also drop to the 50
or marathon before the race begins, 50 milers may drop to the marathon
before the race begins. 50 milers may not drop to the marathon during the
 race.

The weather in Kansas in September is, at best, unpredictable. It
may be as hot as 100 degrees or nearly freezing. It may have been raining
constantly the two weeks leading up to the race or it may not have rained
all summer. Anticipate anything and bring an extra pair of socks.

The
top three male and female finishers in each race will receive special
awards. Sub 24-hour 100 mile finishers will receive a special belt buckle,
24-32 hour 100 mile finishers will receive a belt buckle, 50 mile
finishers will receive a special award, and marathon finishers will
 receive a medal.

There will be a required pre-race briefing and dinner
for the 50 and 100 mile entrants the night before the race. Marathon
entrants are more than welcome to attend. We will provide the main
course(s) (pasta/burgers/hot dogs), we just ask that you bring a side to
share. The dinner will be at the start/finish and will begin at 6pm.

We
(and the runners) always appreciate volunteers. If you're interested,
 contact co-RD Coleen Voeks: pigtailultrarunner@gmail.com.

Camping is
available at Clinton Lake. There are some very nice cabins available as
well. Check the state park website at: http://www.kdwpt.state.ks.us/State-

DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the 4th Annual "Run All Night in the Freezing Cold
and Possible Snow/Sleet/Ice But Have the Time of Your Life" Run!

What:
a 12 hour run on a 3 mile loop course. You do NOT have to run for 12
hours... you can come out and run 1 loop or 20 loops, you don't even have
to start at 7pm, you can show up anytime after 7 and start .... there are
NO rules! Ok... there are a few...

This is a nighttime trail run.. you
MUST have a flashlight, headlamp or some sort of light source. It's DARK
out there! The course will be marked with pink ribbons and reflective
 markers.
The trail is not technical, but it is a trail so there will be
uneven footing and some rocks and roots to deal with. It is a fantastic
course for someone who has never run trails before. Very beginner
friendly! The hills are all small and runnable and the water crossings
will more then likely be dry... unless we get some major precipitation and
  then they might be icy.

NO dogs are allowed!! This is not my rule but
the Prairie Centers rule and I do not want my ability to put this race on
jeopardized. NO DOGS! (Or cats, or llamas, or goats...)

This event is
FREE... but we do very happily accept donations which will be split
between the Olathe Prairie Center and the Lawrence Trail Hawks. The
Prairie Center uses the money for wildlife education for kids and also
trail improvements. The Lawrence Trail Hawks provide the insurance and
supplies to put on the race.

Now to the fun stuff..... the best part
about this race is the food. We have always done this race as a "pot
luck"... we ask that everyone bring a little something to share. In past
years we have had pots and pots of homemade soups, ciders, hot coffee,
homemade cookies, pies, fruit, chips... if it's a food, we've probably had
on a table at this race! This is not a requirement but its fun to see
just how much food you can eat and still run!

The course is a loop so
every 3 miles you will come around to the start/finish (a historic home
with light, bathrooms and HEAT!). You can stash your stuff in your car or
leave it under the tents we will have set up outside so you can aid
yourself and keep going... or go inside the house and socialize for a bit.
The Hawks supply jugs of water, GU, Heed and hot coffee.

NEW THIS
YEAR:: Everyone will be assigned a number this year... PLEASE make sure
you check in at the house before the start of the race and sign the waiver
and get your number!! We haven't gotten fancy enough for chip timing yet,
but you will mark off your laps on a sheet corresponding to your number.
 VERY IMPORTANT!!

If you can't make this event... do NOT fear.. I also
put this on in the summer as a Sweaty Ass Run!

DESCRIPTION:IT’S BAAAAAAACKKK!!! It’s the summertime sweaty ass version
of the winter frozen fat ass!!

A fat ass is a super low-key run
usually put on after the Christmas holidays so everyone can work off the
“fat ass” that they got from eating WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too much pie! The
first one was put on in 1978 and the format hasn’t changed much since
then. It’s usually a no entry fee, no aid, no awards type thing, pretty
much just a big group training run. This is the summertime
version….hence the name Sweaty Ass! If you haven't been to one of these
runs, you've missed out on a fantastic time... I'm not sure which is more
fun, the eating, the running or the socializing with 70+ runners!

Saturday August 11 2012 starting at 7 PM at Olathe Prairie Center. This is
a great course: gorgeous, serene, good footing which is perfect for night
running, a couple of water crossings and few small hills. This is a NIGHT
TRAIL RUN.. you will be required to have a headlamp and/or flashlight!!
There are NO streetlights out there. The course will be marked with
flagging and reflective tape and glow sticks. The run is perfect for
beginners and experienced trail runners alike.

NO PETS ALLOWED! This is
a Prairie Center rule and not mine... please abide by this so we can
 continue to hold runs there.

No entry fee but will we will VERY happily
accept donations for the Lawrence Trail Hawks and for the Prairie Center
 itself.

This is a 3.2 mile loop and you can do as many loops as you’d
like. The course will be open for 11 hours. No pressure to do any
distance but the one you feel like doing! The trails are fantastic and
even if it rains for a week before hand there will not be any WYCO or
Clinton style mud! If there is rain the week of the race there will be
water crossings, but as dry as this summer has been I anticipate that they
  will be bone dry.

There are porta johns on the property. We will
have access to a small historic house at the start/finish area which
equals a place to hang out, power and a fridge.

The parking lot is a
few steps away from the race course so you can easily get aid from your
 car.
Since a Fat Ass is traditionally styled “no aid” you will be
expected to be responsible for your own nutritional needs. BUT that
said... we also ask that everyone bring an item to share.. whether that be
soda, cookies, fruit, chips... any item that you would eat while running
or eat afterwards while socializing. The Lawrence Trail Hawks will provide
  water, Heed and watermelon.

Our wintertime version featured an
absolute smorgasboard of wonderful delights to share contributed by our
runners… I don’t think anyone actually lost any weight that night but
we sure had a great time and the summer version will be the same… just
with less snow… and warmer temps….

Any questions??

DESCRIPTION:If you're a nerd, this is the race for you! It's also the race
for you if you're not a nerd, but like running and pie.

Trail run on
a smooth, fast course with a few hills sprinkled in for fun. This is a
three-loop course, alternating between counter clockwise and clockwise
directions. There will be a single aid station located at the trail head.
Runners will pass the aid station twice, at 5-mile intervals. Water,
sports drink and fruit will be available at the aid station. Registered
participants receive a short-sleeved technical shirt. After the race,
enjoy some homemade pie at the finish line!

Q: What's Pi Day?
A: Pi
Day is a holiday held to celebrate the mathematical constant π, 3.1415...
It is held on March 14th (3/14). Get it? π (sometimes written pi) is
a mathematical constant whose value is the ratio of any circle's
circumference to its diameter in Euclidean space. -source
 http://www.wikipedia.org/

Q: If the race is call Pi Day, which isn't on
  3/14?
A: This year, Pi Day falls on a Wednesday. To accommodate all
those wishing to run, we have moved it to a weekend with the closest
equivalent, 3/4. (Look closely and you'll see it!)

Q: Why is the name
 of your race so long??
A: 1) For enhancing the nerdiness of the race.
The abbreviation of the title is πR², the area of a circle. 2)
 Alliteration is fun. River Rotation.

Q: Why isn't the race 3.1415...
 miles?
A: Because I wanted it to be longer darnit! More fun. :)

DESCRIPTION:This is a graduate-level, no-frills, self-serve hundred. You
 must have
finished a previous 100-mile race since Jan. 1, 2009 in the
 allotted time
to enter the Hawk Hundred. The 32-hour course will be four
 23-mile laps
with an 8-mile out-and-back on the full Clinton Lake North
 Shore Trail
System. Much of the heavily wooded course is rocky and root-
 bound,
though relatively flat. There's an out-and-back hill climb close
 to each
end of the East-West course

Each lap features a mile-long
stretch along Clinton Lake, most of it on
jagged rock. There will be two
unmanned crew access stations -- one about
five miles into each 23-mile
lap, and one 17 miles in. They
are both easy to get to by car. Each
station will feature a pop-up tent
with table, water jug and sign-in
book. Runners will sign in and out at
each station on each visit, whether
they spend time at the station or not.
Since there will be no aid
station volunteers, crew and pacers are highly
recommended. Volunteers
will patrol the course and the aid stations
throughout the race. T-shirt
for all entrants; belt buckles for all finishers.
1st, 2nd, 3rd place
 awards, men and women.

All
participants receive a short-sleeved technical shirt.

Q: Why is the name of your race so long??
A:
  1) For enhancing the nerdiness of the race. The abbreviation of the
title is πR², the area of a circle. 2) Alliteration is fun. River
 Rotation.

Q: Why isn't the race 3.1415... miles?
A: Because I wanted
it to be longer darnit! More fun. :)

DESCRIPTION:IT'S BAAAAAAACKKK!!! It's the summertime sweaty ass version of
 the winter fat ass!!

For those of you that don't know what a Fat Ass
Race is let me educate you a bit! A fat ass is a super low-key run usually
put on after the Christmas holidays so everyone can work off their "fat
ass" that they got from eating WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too much pie! The first one
was put on in 1978 and the format hasn't changed much since then. It's
usually a no entry fee, no aid, no awards type thing, pretty much just a
big group training run. This is the summertime version....hence the name
Sweaty Ass! And for those of you that missed our January Fat Ass, you
missed out on a freezing cold good time!

Friday August 13 2010
starting at 8 PM at Olathe Prairie Center (if you haven't run out there
you really should!) It's a great course: gorgeous, serene, good footing
which is perfect for night running, a couple of water crossings and few
small hills. This is a NIGHT TRAIL RUN.. you will be required to have a
headlamp and/or flashlight!! There are NO streetlights out there. NO PETS
 ALLOWED!

No entry fee but will we accept donations for the Lawrence
Trail Hawks and for the Prairie Center itself.

This is a 3.2 mile loop
and you can do as many loops as you'd like. The course will be open for
10 hours. No pressure to do any distance but the one you feel like doing!
The trails are fantastic and even if it rains for a week beforehand there
will not be any WYCO or Clinton style mud!

I'd love to see as many
people come out as possible and just do whatever distance you feel like.
It'll be a great chance to get in some night running in a safe place with
 a bunch of friends.

There are porta johns on the property. We will have
access to a small historic house at the start/finish area which equals a
place to hang out, and plug ins for crock pots and coffee urns, there is a
fridge and the Lawrence Trail Hawks will supply water, Heed and cold
 watermelon.

The parking lot is a few steps away from the race course so
you can easily get aid from your car also. Since a Fat Ass is
traditionally done as "no aid" you will be expected to bring the majority
of your own supplies.... If anyone wants to bring any items to share it
would be welcome! Our wintertime version featured an absolute smorgasboard
of wonderful delights to share contributed by our runners... I don't
think anyone actually lost any weight that night but we sure had a great
time and I anticipate the summer version being the same... just with less
 snow... and warmer temps....
